Price increase for dairy products
Mainland Products Ltd is to increase the prices of milk, cheese, butter and other dairy products by about six per cent, from March 1.
Chief Executive Officer Geoff Norgate said the price increases - the first in almost three years -- had arisen from increases in operating costs as well as higher international dairy commodity prices.
Mr Norgate said increased world prices "flow through to the input costs that processors pay for domestic milk. In the past, we have reduced market prices following commodity movements, such as in December 2002," he said.
Mr Norgate said that while retailers would determine the shelf prices, Mainland expected milk to rise by about 10 cents a litre from March 1.
Mainland sells dairy products under the Meadowfresh, Tararua, Galaxy, Ferndale and Mainland brands.
