Fresh Recipe For Takeaways
Restaurants and takeaways outlets need fresh recipes to promote themselves, or risk becoming stale. A new and unique internet-based directory service enables takeaways customers to decide what they want, before they phone in their takeaway order.
75% of New Zealanders have access to the internet (AC Neilsen). Tako’s takeaways directory provides an innovative way to show this relatively untapped audience what takeaway businesses have to offer.
With the increasing popularity of heat-and-eat meals, takeaway outlets need to find new ways of marketing. 1.5 million New Zealanders regularly use the internet from home, an increase of 12% in one year, and 39% in two years (AC Neilsen). With Tako, restaurants and takeaway outlets can have a web presence without the expense and hassle of setting up and maintaining their own web site.
In the takeaways arena, fish and chips is still the biggest seller (AC Neilsen). “We believe a significant contributor to that is the lack of customer awareness that many restaurants also provide freshly-prepared takeaway meals” says Managing Director Steve Cook. “Takeaways are not limited to fish and chips, pizza, burgers and chicken. Customers should be thinking, for example, “do I want Thai, or Indian, or Turkish” as well, but are often unaware of the variety available.”
Tako also supports the move towards healthier takeaways. Takeaways have been getting some bad press recently. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for increasing sales in packaged meals. Some outlets make big efforts to create healthy food, and some food styles are naturally pretty good in the first place, e.g. sushi.
“Ultimately those outlets that create and promote fresh, tasty and healthy takeaways will do best, and healthy means low in salt as well as low in fat. The industry needs to take responsibility for itself, and to raise awareness that not all takeaways are bad for you.”
“Aucklanders are busy people, and many have no time to cook for themselves. Takeaways provide convenience with the widest possible choice available, and are usually prepared fresh, not stored in plastic or foil and packed in gas or frozen.”
