Best Western applies for clearance to acquire Pacifica
The Commerce Commission has received an application from the New Zealand Motel Federation Incorporated, trading as Best Western, to acquire Pacifica Lodges & Inns Society Limited.
Best Western and Pacifica are voluntary corporations whose members are independent hotel, motor inn and motel accommodation providers. Both provide sales and marketing, reservations and support services to their members and license their members to trade under the respective Best Western and Pacifica brands.
Best Western has 72 member properties providing 1500 rooms and Pacifica has 66 member properties providing about 1700 rooms throughout New Zealand.
In considering the application, the Commission’s role is to determine whether the merger has the effect of substantially lessening competition in a market.
A public version of the application from Best Western will shortly be available on the Commission’s website, under the Adjudication section.
