Notice of National Council Meeting
Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) National Council meeting will be held on 18-19 November at the James Cook Hotel
Grand Chancellor, 147 The Terrace, Wellington.
The theme of the council meeting is 'The Challenge of The Big Squeeze', maintaining cost competitiveness in an
increasingly difficult international marketplace. In this environment, farmers must focus on keeping on top of costs and
improving productivity.
The meeting will hear the organisation's draft plans for next year, reports from the industry and provincial groups that
make up the Federation, and review membership and service goals.
A panel to discuss 'The Challenge of The Big Squeeze' will be held with Treasury Deputy Secretary Peter Bushnell,
Department of Conservation Director-General Hugh Logan, Ministry of Economic Development Chief Executive Geoff
Dangerfield, Ministry for the Environment Chief Executive Barry Carbon and facilitated by Kathryn Asare from Business NZ
to discuss how Government departments are working to help farmers to remain competitive.
Minister of Conservation Hon Chris Carter, Tourism Industry Association New Zealand Chief Executive John Moriarty,
Minister of Customs Hon Rick Barker and Leader of the Opposition Dr Don Brash will also address the council meeting.
Parts of the National Council meeting may go into committee, in particular 10.35-11.40am and 1.30-3.15pm on Tuesday
afternoon.
