GO BLACK
Telecom is challenging other New Zealand corporates and businesses to show their support for the All Blacks this weekend by wearing black to work on Friday.
The All Blacks tackle trans-Tasman rival Australia in a Rugby World Cup sudden death semi final play-off to decide one of the two finalists.
“The All Blacks have been on the tough side of the draw at the World Cup and they need our support, particularly given that the match is going to be played in Sydney in front of a capacity crowd dominated by Australian fans,” says Brett Hollister, Telecom’s Sponsorships and Events Manager.
Telecom is a proud sponsor of the All Backs through its Go Black campaign.
“It would be great to create a black-out right throughout New Zealand on Friday where New Zealand workers don their black attire in support of the All Blacks.”
“It would send a tangible message to the All Blacks that the public of New Zealand is right behind them and want them to return with the William Webb Ellis Trophy.”
Since the World Cup started last month, Telecom people have been using their imagination and creativity in a weekly staff competition ranging over four categories; Bake It Black, Black In, Black Out and Black Stand.
“One of the more innovative entries involved one staff member baking the letters ‘Go The All Blacks’ onto burnt toast using silver paper to create the letters.”
Mr Hollister said each week more than $800 in prizes – mostly All Black gear - had been won by staff.
“We’ve had hundreds of entries and some staff have gone to extraordinary efforts in the four categories of the competition.
Mr Hollister said while the All Blacks were working hard to bring home the William Webb Ellis Trophy, the Telecom team had created plenty of go-forward at home including rebuilding the All Black website www.allblacks.com.
As well, the All Blacks were delivering exclusive rugby content to 027 Telecom mobile phones before each game.
