NZ Property Institute Announces Post Graduate Scholarship Recipients
The NZ Property Institute today announced two scholarship recipients. Each recipient will receive $1500, and a
certificate acknowledging their success for being a recipient of the NZ Property Institute Post-graduate scholarship.
Institute CEO said today," We recently reviewed all our awards and prizes. This involved initiating a three-stage
project to targets undergraduate, postgraduate and workplace excellence. The awards framework is designed to recognise
contributions to the property profession and sector, to encourage youth to pursue academic study in Property, and to
provide research outcomes of use to the sector."
There are two recipients of NZ Property Institute Post-graduate scholarship for 2003. The first recipient, Conal
Newland, has recently completed a Master of Business Studies, majoring in Property. His research report, titled "Price
does not equal Cost" focused on the usage of the Modal House by New Zealand's valuers and the quality of available
residential construction costing data. This paper has been completed and successfully submitted for a publication in the
Institutes Property Journal.
The other recipient, Song Shi, is currently studying a Master Business Studies (MBS) majoring in Valuation and Property
Management. Song is carrying out a paper looking at the issue of the 'Leaky Home Stigma'. This research involves two
stages, with the first one using qualitative research, concentrating on the following questions: - Is there a
stigma attached to the leaking homes? - Why a stigma might exist and what it consists of? The second stage
will investigate the scale of the leaking house stigma through sales analysis. The sales data will be collected from
both public and private information.
Each recipient receives a payment to the value of $1500. This payment will be given to the student, over the length of
his/her research, and a progress report is required from the student (by the Institute) partway through the research.
