Air NZ Helps Enhance New Zealand's International Tourism Prospects
Air New Zealand will bring a number of international media to New Zealand to cover next month's Southern Traverse
adventure race and experience the beauty of the host region Otago, increasing the country's inbound tourism prospects.
As a principal sponsor of Southern Traverse for three years, Air New Zealand is flying more than 20 media from key
markets such as USA, UK, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Asia and South America to capture the essence and spirit of
one of the world's greatest races, set in Otago's breathtaking landscape.
"This world-renowned event is a drawcard for hundreds of athletes and sport enthusiasts globally who often return each
year to be part of the action, boosting New Zealand's tourism prospects," says Air New Zealand Vice President Marketing & Alliances, Ed Sims.
"In particular, the international media contingent will take their stories to markets around the world, highlighting the
appeal of New Zealand - not just to extreme sports fans but to travellers seeking unspoilt, dramatic landscapes and warm
hospitality."
Many international competitors and supporters will also fly Air New Zealand to take part in Southern Traverse,
travelling thousands of kilometres from the USA, UK and Australia before the race even begins.
Entries for the 2003 Southern Traverse close at the end of October and so far 33 teams from 12 countries have registered
to compete in the round-the-clock, six-day race from November 10 to 15, 2003.
