Telecom Invites Auckland To Experience The Future At New Concept Store
Telecom has unveiled its first concept store at Auckland’s Westfield St Lukes mall, signalling a new direction in the
company’s retail marketing.
Building on the success of the futuristic Telecom Shed technology showcase in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour which was
visited by over 400,000 visitors during the America’s Cup, the St Lukes Telecom Store contains hands-on demonstrations
of Telecom’s next generation of communications technology.
Visitors to the Telecom Store will be able to experience the latest communications technology including video messaging,
the latest mobile phone technology, Xtra online games and Xtra JetStream internet.
Kevin Kenrick, General Manager of Telecom Mobile, says the emphasis in the Telecom Store is on turning abstract ideas
into real experiences.
“We want people to experience the future we’re selling. A lot of people have heard about things like broadband, picture
messaging on mobiles, video messaging and multi-player online gaming, but not many people have actually used them. We’re
giving people the chance to experience the future first-hand before they buy it.”
Video Messaging, one of the most popular experiences at the Telecom Shed, has been replicated at the Telecom Store.
Video Messaging allows Telecom Store visitors to record 30 second video messages and email, via PC around the world.
Visitors can also explore the latest mobile phone and PDA technology, the speed of Xtra JetStream Internet and the
excitement of Xtra multi-player online games.
The Westfield St Lukes concept store is the flagship for a nationwide revamp of Telecom’s retail presence planned over
the next six months under the direction of former Warehouse CEO, Greg Muir.
