Meridian Energy first with on-line
home energy savings calculator
Meridian Energy has launched an on-line home energy savings calculator, which it has made available for free to all
householders in New Zealand from its website at: http://www.meridianenergy.co.nz/energysavingscalculator
“We believe our on-line home energy savings calculator is the first of its kind in New Zealand. It provides valuable
information for householders on their energy usage and costs, and where they can potentially make savings in their
home,” says Meridian Energy Retail Director Grenville Gaskell.
It takes just a few minutes for householders to input their information into the on-line calculator. The calculator then
provides a summary of how householders use their energy. It also provides specific suggestions on how householders can
reduce their energy costs, and how much they could potentially save.
“For instance, installing five energy efficient compact fluorescent lights in high-use areas could save up to $62 a year
in energy costs,” says Mr Gaskell.
“Householders who want to save money on energy costs can use the on-line calculator to assess their usage and how they
could reduce their energy costs.”
The on-line calculator follows on from Meridian Energy’s latest booklet on energy efficiency (Energy and cost savings
start here), which provides everyday hints on energy efficiency and conservation. This booklet is also available on the
Meridian Energy web-site.
“The on-line energy savings calculator is part of Meridian Energy’s commitment to helping customers use energy more
efficiently and to help protect the environment. Energy efficiency and conservation practices will help reduce the rate
of demand growth in electricity, and reduce the need for new generation. Customers can also save money,” says Mr
Gaskell.
“Making the best use of electricity will help maintain the security of supply that New Zealand needs to ensure its
ongoing prosperity.”
