Wormald Fire Protection Wins $2 Million Sky City Hotel Contract
Auckland (August 27, 2003) - Leading fire safety solutions company Wormald Fire Protection, a business segment of Tyco
Services Ltd., has won one of this year’s largest contracts for the installation of fire-safety equipment.
The value of the contract for installation of equipment at the new Sky City Hotel and Conference Centre in Auckland will
have topped $2 million when it is completed in 2005.
Wormald Business Development Manager Grant Holland said securing the contract had required a very concentrated long-term
team effort.
“We wanted to take the key learning’s of our project experience, and deliver a standard of fire safety service that
could be recognised internationally.”
The contract to design and fit-out the fire and safety services for Sky City has taken 26 months and six full time staff
to secure, with at least a further eight staff to work full time for 18 months to complete the installation.
The contract involves the installation of fire alarms and sprinklers throughout the hotel, as well as installing a
special hazard-cooking hood system in the complex’s restaurant.
Mr Holland said that, once completed, the fire safety equipment at the Sky City Hotel and Conference Centre will be the
most advanced in its field, and this is a testament to the team involved in its design and engineering.
“Job prospecting and sales is now an integral part of our business. Securing this contract involved designers,
engineers, sale and key accounts all working together to show Sky City and their construction company Fletcher
Construction why we should do the job.”
Work has already begun on the installation.
