· Golden Kiwi in Kerikeri Attracting Interest
·
· With the recent success of Zespri gold kiwifruit on the world market, Northland has recently become popular
amongst growers looking to expand their operations.
·
· Harcourts Kerikeri sales consultant, Steve Elliott has successfully marketed two Zespri orchards in the last few
months. Both buyers were owners of large green kiwifruit orchards in the Bay of Plenty who were looking for expansion
opportunities. Mr Elliott said the new owners were very confident and experienced growers and their recent purchases
enabled them to “diversify into another established orcharding region.”
·
· The latest sale, which was confirmed late July, was an 8.11 hectare Kerikeri orchard with 5.31 canopy hectares
of Zespri gold kiwifruit. The vines were all young (the first plantings in 2000) with new structures and the first
commercial crop will be ready for the 2004 season.
·
· The flat to gently sloping property included a comfortable 3 bedroom home, and along with a full range of
orchard machinery was sold as a going concern for $950,000. The new owners will continue to run their green kiwifruit
orchard in Te Puke.
·
· The other recent sale by Mr Elliott was an 8.9 hectare orchard for $1.3 million in March with a full range of
machinery and sheds. The new owners also have a green kiwifruit operation in Bay of Plenty.
·
· Mr Elliott said “The buoyancy of Kiwifruit and Northland as a whole made these properties very attractive to
buyers. We are continuing to experience very strong buyer demand both from the larger cities and overseas for all types
of property throughout the Bay of Islands.”
