Product Recall Trident and Signature Range Rice Crackers
Supplier Hutchinsons (NZ) Ltd has advised Progressive Enterprises Ltd that it is recalling eight different products in the Trident and Signature Range of rice crackers.
The products are Trident Rice Crackers in Plain, Tomato Salsa, Seaweed, Salt & Vinegar and Sweet Chilli flavours and Signature Range Rice Crackers in Plain, Tomato Salsa and Seaweed flavours.
The products are being recalled because they have been found to contain milk protein that is not declared in the ingredient listing. In addition, the Trident Sweet Chilli flavour Rice Crackers contain soy which is not declared in the ingredient listing.
Consumers who suffer from allergies associated with milk protein should not consume the products and those who suffer from a soy allergy should not consume the Trident Sweet Chilli flavour Rice Crackers.
The products should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
In the case of the three Signature Range Rice Crackers the presence of milk protein was identified during testing. That testing had been initiated following a single complaint of an allergic reaction that had led to an earlier recall of Signature Range BBQ Rice Crackers.
According to Mark Brosnan, general manager merchandise at Progressive Enterprises Ltd, the latest results were brought to the attention of the company on Friday of last week (August 1)
"We immediately made contact with the NZ Food Safety Authority and Allergy Awareness and all affected product was removed from sale on Monday of this week."
"As detailed in Hutchinsons' Recall Notice these products are only harmful to a person who suffers from an allergy to Dairy or Soy products.
"Our product specification to the manufacturer was very clear. However an ingredient supplier had changed a key flavouring ingredient without the knowledge of our supplier. These issues are being addressed by Progressive Enterprises."
Progressive Enterprises takes the issue very seriously and has a proactive approach to withdrawing or recalling products in the interests of protecting the consumer.
We are undertaking a mail out to our suppliers reminding them of labelling requirements and of our expectations.
The Rice Crackers are sold in all Progressive Enterprises supermarkets nation-wide including Foodtown, Woolworths, Countdown, Price Chopper, Supervalue, Fresh Choice and Woolworths at Gull stores.
