Big three battle for the lead in booming new car market
In a new car market which is running 8.5% ahead of the same period last year, Ford, Toyota and Holden are locked in a tight battle for leadership, and have established a big gap over fourth-placed Mitsubishi.
6233 new cars were sold in July, bringing the year to date tally to 38,870. If this rate of sales continues, it’s possible that 2003 will see the first 70,000 new car market in New Zealand since 1990.
The market for commercial vehicles is also running strongly, and Toyota is the clear leader in this segment.
The attached tables show the market performance of the top ten marques and models for the full year 2002, as well as year to date July and the month of July 2003. Top rental car sellers for the month are also listed.
