Dairy Farmers Encouraged to have a Say on Meat Levy
Dairy farmers are encouraged to have a say on the future of the meat levy they currently pay on cull cows, says Dairy
Farmers of New Zealand Chair Kevin Wooding.
Meat New Zealand is holding a referendum to determine the future of the organisation under the Commodity Levies Act.
"Plenty of information is available to help dairy farmers make an informed decision, however if they need more
information I encourage them to contact Meat New Zealand.
"DFNZ supports the collection of a levy via the Commodities Levy Act as it will make funding more transparent and should
make the new organisation more accountable to farmers than Meat New Zealand has been in the past.
"Dairy farmers should make sure they are registered. If any dairy farmers have not received voting papers, then they may
not be registered - Call the Farmer's Choice hotline on 0800 109 150 to register. The larger dairy companies have
automatically registered many suppliers, but others are not.
"Farmers can vote from Thursday, 31 July until Friday, 29 August either on the farmers' choice website or by mailing your voting papers in the free-post envelope provided.
"This is a vital opportunity for all dairy farmers to have a say in the future of their meat levy."
