Sony Sponsorship Helps Young Fashion Designers
Sony New Zealand's sponsorship of the Modus Operandi group is providing a power boost for the careers of future fashion
designers.
The comprehensive sponsorship package includes providing prizes for the Modus Operandi Fashion Design Awards and loaning
product to enhance the fashion shows. In addition, Modus Operandi Director Miriam Clements has been loaned a Sony VAIO
notebook computer to help the dynamic, young company to grow.
"In the home, office and on the move Sony products are designed with the user in mind. As technology advances portable
products are increasingly becoming the wearable accessory, so it makes sense for us to be involved with Modus Operandi
and their development of New Zealand fashion," says Martin McManus, Deputy General Manager for Sony New Zealand.
Modus Operandi has organised its national Fashion Design Awards to foster New Zealand style and help emerging designers
to achieve their goals. The group also will be opening a Fashion Gallery in High Street, Auckland in October displaying
new styles through which Modus Operandi help designers to produce and market their garments.
Their efforts are attracting plenty of attention including a documentary on TV2 to screen later in the year. To assist
with this Sony has provided six mini DV cameras for filming video diaries for the programme.
Miriam Clements, Director of Modus Operandi, says Sony has played a big part in the Modus Operandi success story.
"Sony has been so amazing not only providing prizes for the Modus Operandi Fashion awards but also loaning us plasma
screens for the shows. The plasma screens were fantastic and really made the events what they were," says Miriam.
"I've had the constant use of a VAIO notebook computer which has been invaluable to the development of the business.
It's been by my side the entire time I've been developing Modus Operandi."
Miriam's FR700 VAIO Notebook is just one of a range of VAIO's now available in the New Zealand market.
"The Sony VAIO notebook is so portable, it has great style and I constantly get complimented on it," Miriam says.
The Modus Operandi Fashion Design Awards finale will be held in Auckland on October 19th. The winner of the Sony
Streetwear section will also be able to experience the power of a VAIO as they too will receive their own VAIO notebook
computer. The winner will be announced on August 3rd in the Sunday Star-Times.
The national final follows regional competitions in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch which saw the Sony Streetwear
winners at these competitions take away a new ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman.
This new Walkman allows consumers to compress vast quantities of music onto a single disc while preserving high levels
of sound quality.
