2003 House Of The Year National Finalists Announced
After six months of competition, the national finalists for the 13th annual Registered Master Builders House of the Year
competition have been announced.
From a record 553 entries across New Zealand, and following local and regional judging, the numbers have been whittled
down to 51 national finalists.
National judging takes place from July 31 – August 27 as the judges Graham Coe, Rolly Adams, and Joan Harnett-Kindley,
travel from Warkworth to Wanaka.
Registered Master Builders Federation Chief Executive Chris Preston says the judges role is always a hard one, but the
standard of the entries this year has been outstanding.
“The innovation and design that has been displayed across the breadth of the country is a true reflection of how the
nation has embraced the notion of building or renovating their own home, and how much passion is involved in the
process,” says Chris Preston.
The winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in Auckland on October 4.
The Registered Master Builders 2003 House of the Year is supported by principal sponsors PlaceMakers and James Hardie,
and Lifestyle Award sponsors Winstone Wallboards (Gib Living Solutions), Tasman Insulation (Pink Batts), Fletcher
Challenge Forests (Origin Timeframe), Mico Bathrooms (the showroom operation of Mico Plumbing and Pipelines), and
NewBuild Home Finance Limited (NewBuild Home Finance Plan).
A one-hour House of the Year special will feature the winners on TV One in late November.
Winners of the local commercial building awards are also being judged by the national judging panel, with the results to
be announced on August 31.
