Pharmacybrands Appoints New CEO
The board of Pharmacybrands has announced the appointment of expatriate New Zealander Alan Wham to the position of chief
executive officer of the pharmacy owing company.
Mr Wham is presently managing director of 3M Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd in Sydney and is also that company's regional
director for Asia, Australasia and Africa.
Pharmacybrands was formed earlier this year from the merger of Amcal Chemists, Unichem and Dispensaryfirst.
Mr Wham, who has an extensive background in the pharmaceutical industry in the UK and Ireland, has also worked in
pharmacies in New Zealand and the UK.
He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Dunedin's University of Otago as well as an Institute of Management Diploma
and a NZ Direct Marketing Association Certificate.
He is currently a Board member of Medicines Australia, a member the Australian Self-Medication Industry and a member of
the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand.
Mr Wham is married, with two children aged 10 and 12. In addition to his family interests, he is a keen follower of
sports including golf, scuba diving, fishing, boating and skiing.
Pharmacybrands chairman Hon. Jim McLay says Pharmacybrands is delighted to welcome Alan Wham back to New Zealand to take
up such an important role with Pharmacybrands.
"Alan has a proven track record and has already demonstrated leadership and general management success for a large and
diverse company. We are confident he will achieve similar successes with Pharmacybrands in New Zealand," Mr McLay says.
Mr Wham takes up his new role on 1 October 2003. He replaces Tim Roper who became CEO of Unichem in 1990 and oversaw the
merger of Amcal with that company to form Pharmacybrands in 2003.
Mr Roper has taken a position with LIFE Pharmacy, a company associated with Pharmacybrands.
