International Award For Governance To New Zealand Specialist
The International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) announced its 2003 Award for outstanding contribution to corporate
governance would be awarded to the New Zealand-based Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance (CACG).
ICGN represents the World’s large investment fund managers and controls trillions of dollars of investment throughout
the world.
The CACG founding and continuing CEO, Geoffrey Bowes, received the Award in Amsterdam this week and joins prestigious
international governance leaders like Sir Adrian Cadbury - the first recipient three years ago.
CACG was established with “seeding money” from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in 1998 and has a small
part-time staff based in Marlborough.
To conduct its courses and workshops it draws on practicing directors from throughout the Commonwealth, however, the
majority are sourced from New Zealand.
Some thirty five Commonwealth countries have received assistance from CACG by way of practical on the ground workshops
and courses.
CACG also produces best practice guidelines which countries and entities can use to promote excellence in corporate
governance.
The most notable is CACG Guidelines – Principles for Corporate Governance in the Commonwealth was endorsed at CHOGM
November 1999.
Geoffrey Bowes is the Chairman of The Boardroom Practice Limited (TBPL) which is working in partnership with Otago
University to deliver courses on corporate governance that count towards Certificates and degrees.
He is also Chairman of Building Conextions Ltd, three ITM operations in the Nelson region, he was Chairman of Commodore
Hotel, GPR Dehler and Deputy Chairman of Synergy International.
