Telecom Expands Mobile Phone Coverage In Waikato
Telecom is spending over $1.2 million to improve mobile phone coverage in the fast growing suburbs of Flagstaff and
Fairview Downs as well as the townships of Matangi and Whatawhata.
The new Telecom mobile phone sites at Flagstaff and in the Fairview Downs area are set to go live next week, while new
services at Matangi and Whatawhata were switched on last week to bring enhanced 027 coverage to residents in the
townships and surrounding rural areas.
The enhancements are the first stage of a significant 027 coverage upgrade for the Waikato, with a further three mobile
phone sites planned for the region. The planned services will boost 027 mobile coverage around Airport Road, Pukete and
Raglan.
Telecom Mobile General Manager Kevin Kenrick said the Waikato upgrade is part of Telecom’s commitment to providing New
Zealanders with exceptional mobile coverage.
It means the growing number of customers in the Waikato with Telecom 027 mobiles will experience improved coverage and
call clarity. Customers will also be able to use their 027 mobiles to access a range of mobile services in more places.
“With Xtra Mobile Services* you can use your 027 mobile to access information such as local weather forecasts, the
latest news and sports info, mobile games and, if you’re an Xtra customer, even send and receive your Xtra emails when
you’re out and about,” he said.
The investment in the new and planned mobile phone sites will also boost critical business telecommunications in the
Waikato by expanding Mobile JetStream coverage.
Mobile JetStream is New Zealand’s fastest, most secure mobile data network that delivers remote high-speed access to the
Internet, office email and company networks via hand-held computers and laptops connected to the 027 network.
