Product Recall -- Tahini-Based Products from Turkish Kitchen
Auckland 1 July 2003 - The Turkish Kitchen is recalling all products that include tahini after samples of the product
returned a positive indication for salmonella contamination under a regular testing programme.
The affected products are:

Hummus (Chickpea and Tahini Spread) 200g 14-07-03 or earlier
Eggplant Hummus 200g 14-07-03 or earlier
Barbunya 200g 14-07-03 or earlier
Hummus Mini Dips 3 x 50g 14-07-03 or earlier
Assorted Mini Dips 3 x 50g 14-07-03 or earlier
All batches of the above product with "Best Before" dates of 15-07-03 or later are safe for consumption. No other food
products manufactured by Turkish Kitchen are affected under this recall.
The product is sold in throughout New Zealand in a large number of outlets where spreads and snack food products are
retailed. Turkish Kitchen has notified the Ministry of Health. It has advised all distributors of the recall and has
asked that all stores remove any product potentially affected.
There have been no reports of illness, however consumers are advised that there is a health risk associated with
consuming the affected product and they should check the "Best Before" dates on all tahini-based Turkish Kitchen
products that they have purchased. Affected product should be returned to the store where it was purchased, where it
will be exchanged or a refund given.
