Vodafone on the move
Vodafone New Zealand Limited confirmed it has taken a 12 year lease on a building to be developed on the corner of
Fanshawe and Halsey Streets, Auckland City.
The Development Manager is Newcrest Holdings and the building is due to be completed by September 2004, with Vodafone
moving into the new premises a month later. The new building will bring together Vodafone staff from current Pitt St,
College Hill and Symonds St locations.
Vodafone Managing Director Tim Miles says the move makes good business sense consolidating three locations into one and
creating a ‘hot’ working environment for Vodafone staff.
Miles says the new premises is a reflection of Vodafone’s focus on people – customers and staff, in alignment with the
company’s values.
“Our people can focus even more on delivering to our customers needs, as bringing together three locations into one site
means better use of time and resources. The ground floor will be a hub of mobile communications, so our customers can
come in and experience new products and services.”
“It also creates a fantastic environment for Vodafone customers and staff to interact.”
Miles says the building will also reflect Vodafone’s current wireless working environment.
“Most of our staff currently rely totally on their mobile for day to day business communications, and don’t have fixed
landlines. We’ll continue this way of doing business in the new building – and without all those fixed lines the
logistics of moving is a lot easier!”

As part of Vodafone’s commitment to being a sustainable business, architects were briefed to design a building which
maximise efficient use of resources, like electricity, to function.
Newcrest Development Manager Lincoln Fraser says “The building is designed to increase the efficiency of office space
and increase the level of natural light, using less electricity to function. The all glass exterior is shaded on the
north by aluminium louvres which assist cooling in the summer, while in winter there is a greater opportunity to use
natural light to suppliment office heating, resulting in less consumption of energy for heating and cooling.”
“The building has 14,000 m2 of office space, six floors, an interactive lobby for customers on the ground floor, a large
pedestrian plaza in front of the building and views of the Viaduct Harbour and Victoria Park. Vodafone will occupy
12,000 m2 of the building,” says Fraser.
Resource consent has been granted and construction has begun.
