MEDIA RELEASE
APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER,
MEAT INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF NEW ZEALAND INC
The MIA Chairman, Bill Falconer, today announced the appointment of Caryll Shailer as the new CEO to replace Brian Lynch
who is retiring from the position. The MIA represents New Zealand meat processing and export companies and has been in
existence since 1987.
Ms Shailer, 40, is currently Director of Biosecurity Coordination in the Ministry of Agriculture; she has a degree in
veterinary science. She will start with MIA in mid-August 2003.
“We are delighted that Caryll accepted our offer of appointment”, Mr Falconer said. “She has spent most of her career
working in or with the meat industry. This has included practical experience in meat works and the very important
assignment as Veterinary Counsellor in the New Zealand Embassy, Brussels. Her senior management background will be a
valuable asset”.
“Caryll will bring to the CEO position considerable hands-on knowledge of the industry’s processing operations, as well
as first-hand experience of dealing with the complex technical and regulatory issues our meat exporters have to cope
with in maintaining their access to our major meat markets offshore. Her most recent responsibility for biosecurity is
very relevant to an area underpinning the industry’s future wellbeing.”
Mr Falconer paid tribute to the work Brian Lynch had done during his eleven years in the position.
