Radio New Zealand Appoints A Local To Cover Otago – Southland
Radio New Zealand News has appointed an experienced journalist as its Network Reporter based in Dunedin. Nathan Mills, currently working in the the Wellington newsroom, will move to Dunedin in July to provide specialist news coverage for the Otago – Southland region.
A past finalist in the prestigious Qantas Media Awards, Nathan Mills has extensive experience covering stories of national significance including ‘live to air’ work at scenes of breaking news. He is looking forward to the challenge of covering events with a specific regional focus.
Originally from Southland, Nathan Mills, was educated at Southland Boy’s High School and holds a Bachelor of Broadcast Communication (Journalism) from the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch, a qualification gained as a mature student following a career as Business Analyst for the Bank of New Zealand.
Mills says he’s excited about returning to the South Island. “ I was born in Waimate but later moved to Invercargill and lived there throughout my childhood. I consider myself a Southlander and am proud to have grown up in the deep south! “The current stint in Wellington is the only time I’ve lived outside the South Island and I’m looking forward to getting back there, because the people are generally friendlier and you get better value for your money at golf courses! “I’m also looking forward to covering stories of note in Otago and Southland, meeting more real people who are personally affected by the issues of the day and getting out and about as much as possible.” Nathan Mills takes up his new position in Dunedin on 21 July
