Wine Education a Key Focus for Wine New Zealand
Wine New Zealand (24-26th August) will this year host a series of educational seminars to ensure visitors gain a full appreciation of the unrivalled array of wines on offer at ‘New Zealand’s greatest wine experience’.
Trade Educational Element
At Wine New Zealand, members of the wine and hospitality trade are invited to advance their knowledge of New Zealand wine via two seminars within the Telecom Business Seminar Series (also part of the umbrella National Hospitality Show). In ‘The Rise of Reds’ seminar on Tuesday 26th August at 10.30am, leading winemakers Brent Marris (Wither Hills Vineyard) and Rod MacDonald (Vidal Estate) will explore the increasing profile of New Zealand’s red varieties and take the audience through a structured tasting of eight of New Zealand’s best red wines.
Ticket price $20.00. Contact the Restaurant Association on Tel: 09 378 8403.
Trade can also learn about the latest wine developments within the trend-setting USA restaurant scene with top American writer Bruce Schoenfeld. Bruce will conduct a seminar entitled ‘Wine Trends within US Restaurants’ at 12.30pm on Tuesday 26th August.
Ticket price $20.00. Contact the Restaurant Association on Tel: 09 378 8403.
Consumer Educational Element
For wine loving consumers, two seminars by New Zealand’s leading commentator, Bob Campbell MW will take place during Wine New Zealand. The first seminar, "Campbell on Chardonnay, Cabernet and Cheese", looks at the strong age-old affiliation of wine and cheese, which, like all good relationships require a little work to ensure both parties really bring the best out in each other. Bob will lead the audience
through a tasting of some delectable Puhoi Valley cheeses, carefully matched to the most classic of white and red wines, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. French cheesemaker, Franck Beaurain from Puhoi Valley will provide some interesting insights on the cheese from his 15 years international experience. This seminar will take place from 2.00 – 3.00pm.
Ticket price $12.00. Max 40 places, contact Vicky Maber on 09 306 5553.
Bob will also give consumers some hot tips on "What's New on the Wine Scene", from 4.30 – 5.30pm. The audience will explore some of New Zealand’s most exciting new varieties, including Pinot Gris, Viognier, Rousanne, Montepulciano, Syrah and Malbec. Educational and undoubtedly entertaining commentary will also be provided by a panel of some of New Zealand's most adventurous winemakers (Alan McCorkindale from Alan McCorkindale Wines, Gordon Russell from Esk Valley Estate, Hans Herzog from Herzog Winery, James Millton from The Millton Vineyard, John Hancock from Trinity Hill and Nicholas Buck from Te Mata Estate Winery).
Ticket price $12.00. Max 40 places, contact Vicky Maber on 09 306 5553.
Part of National Hospitality, Wine New Zealand is the country’s foremost wine exhibition with over 100 exhibiting wineries showcasing over 1000 wines.
