Windflow Technology Appoints New Chairman and Deputy Chairman
Windflow Technology is pleased to announce the appointment of Barrie Leay as new Chairman. Vicki Buck has accepted the
position of Deputy Chairman.
Mr Leay paid tribute to the inspirational leadership provided by the previous chairman, Dr Neil Cherry, who passed away
on May 24th. A long-time supporter of wind power and expert in the field of wind resource assessment, Neil had guided
the board through the company's formative period. He showed considerable skills as a chairman and took an active role,
missing only one meeting due to the motor neuron disease which claimed his life less than two weeks later.
When he offered to step down as chairman at the end of 2002, the board was unanimous in supporting a motion by Barrie
Leay asking Neil to stay on as long as he felt able. It was a great source of joy to Neil and his fellow directors that
Neil was able to be present when the company's demonstration wind turbine was erected on May 17th, seven days before he
died.
Both Mr Leay and Ms Buck bring extensive skills and experience to Windflow Technology as directors in business and
project development.
Mr Leay is currently Chairman of Ecodyne Limited, a company established to develop environmentally benign forms of power
generation, Managing Director of e-services Limited, an Internet company involved in energy networks and energy
efficiency, and founder Chairman of the APEC Energy Business Network in the Asia Pacific region.
Well known as Mayor of Christchurch from 1989 to 1998, Ms Buck is the development manager at Christchurch Polytechnic
Institute of Technology, has worked to establish a new state primary school in Christchurch and also a new state
secondary school. She is currently a director of a range of Christchurch companies including Jade Stadium Ltd and
Brylton Software.
To date, Mr Leay and Ms Buck have played significant roles on the Windflow Technology Board of Directors contributing
extensively to the direction of the company. "As a company, we are looking forward to considerable advances in the
foreseeable future and I am confident in taking those steps with my fellow directors, supported by the skills of the
Windflow staff and the continued keen interest of our shareholders," said Mr Leay.
