New Mobile Games Company Launches in NZ
This week a new mobile phone games company launches in New Zealand. Using the latest mobile technology to hit the highstreets, www.nudgemobile.co.nz allows mobile users to download high quality games to their Java and WAP-enabled handsets.
With a launch range of over a hundred Java games for 14 popular mobiles, users have a large choice of games to download on the move and save in their phones to play at their leisure. Using either nudgemobile's web or WAP sites, users can find the games available for their phone, choosing from categories including arcade, platform, puzzle, board and sports.
nudgemobile is headed up by ex Virgin Telecoms product development guru, Andrew Cantle and gaming analyst, Steven Tredget. On a mission to give the nation's mobiles a nudge, the brand treats mobile games with the same love and attention you might expect for major console releases, providing hints, tips, news, reviews and competitions for their users (who they call nudgesters).
One of the most interesting possibilities for the latest breed of phones is that Java and WAP now allows mobile users to take part in multiplayer games. Players can take each other on from different phones simultaneously around the country, seeing each other's moves on their mobile screens and sending messages between players during the game. Cannons ME (Multiplayer Edition) is nudgemobile's first multiplayer game, with more to come this year.
"These are very exciting times for us", says nudgemobile's MD, Andrew Cantle, self-confessed PlayStation addict. "Mobile entertainment is set to explode this year and nudgemobile as the gamer's choice will be a leading force in the area. To most people, games are for boys in their bedrooms and mobile games are no better than Nokia's Snake. That's all changed now with highly accessible, good quality games that you can play just about anywhere. These will appeal to avid gamers, the wider market and most importantly, my Mother, the world's greatest Asteroids fan."
This month nudgemobile will also be adding classic Atari titles to their portfolio so that mobile phones users will be able to play the likes of Asteroids, Breakout and Pong (the original bat 'n' ball game) on the small screen.
You can give your mobile a nudge by visiting either the nudgemobile website at www.nudgemobile.co.nz or WAPsite at http://games.nudgemobile.co.nz. Games cost NZ$15 each.
nudgemobile also launched its Australian service at http://www.nudgemobile.com.au this week.
