Government Transport Policies Will Fail New Zealand
More trains, bicycles cycles and sneakers are not the answer to transport problems facing New Zealand.
"Greater and smarter investment in road funding is required, says Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc) Vice President
Charlie Pedersen.
"Aucklanders are suffering from unacceptable levels of congestion for one reason - under funding.
"If the average New Zealander knew that the Green Party wants to take away their personal freedom to drive a private
motor car they would be horrified. The proposed intervention is akin to returning to the failed centralised policies
that most other countries have abandoned.
"The reality is that much of New Zealand's primary product, especially forestry, is produced in areas not well serviced
by rail and the terrain makes rail impractical.
"Federated Farmers is part of 'Get Real on Roads', a group representing businesses and motorists, that have joined
together to raise public awareness of the need for a change in Government approach. Contrary to the Green Party's
assertions we collectively represent a majority of New Zealanders.
"Federated Farmers urges the Government and the Green Party to enter into meaningful consultation with the business and
motoring communities so that long term solutions can be found that will enhance, rather then stifle, New Zealand's
future economic prosperity and personal freedom."
