Tranz Rail Hillside Workshops gain multi-million dollar contracts
Auckland, New Zealand – Tranz Rail Holdings Limited, [NZSE:TRH], Dunedin, Hillside Workshops will be kept busy over the
next two years working on two projects worth close to $14 million. The first of the two contracts for the Auckland Rail
Project has already started and both parties are planning to sign a final contract for the second by May 9.
The first contract is due for completion in June and has involved the overhaul of two, three-carriage units and two
locomotives for use on the Auckland line. The second project will see the rebuilding of former British Rail carriages
and is due for completion in December 2004.
All parts of the Hillside workshops are involved in both projects, from fabrication, paint shop to the refurbishment
team.
The two, three-car carriages were previously used in Queensland and New South Wales and all the carriages have been
completely gutted and covered by new fibreglass lining .Air conditioning will be installed in each carriage.
The second project involves an extensive fit out for the former British Rail carriages, which will be lowered to match
the height of the Auckland stations and extensively remanufactured to better than new conditions.
Hillside Refurbishment Contracts manager Lyn Harris says everyone at the workshops were extremely excited about the
contracts and employees were taking real pride in what had been achieved with the first contract already.
