Wellington Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey T1/2003
The first round of the Wellington 2003 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Surveys conducted by Research International was released today at noon.
Department of Statistics 2001 Census Data indicates that there are approximately 290,900 people aged over 10 years in the Wellington survey area used for the Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these 290,900 people, 85.0% of them listen to a commercial radio station at some time during the week.
The survey, conducted over 6 weeks and sampling 1,988 people aged 10 years and over has found that 91ZM continues to have the most listeners each week, with 74,900 different people tuning in each week. The Breeze retains its second placing with 72,500 different listeners each week, followed by More FM with 57,800 listeners. Classic Hits 90FM moves up to fourth placing with 50,400 listeners, followed by Newstalk ZB moving to fifth placing with 44,100 listeners each week.
The commercial radio station with the highest market share in Wellington is The Breeze with a 15.3% share of the market. 91ZM moves to second placing with a 14.7% share of commercial radio listening in Wellington, followed by Newstalk ZB with a 11.9% share and More FM with a 9.7% share. Classic Hits 90FM moves up to fifth in the market with an 8.2% share of commercial radio listening in Wellington.
Breakfast results show 91ZM continuing to hold the highest share, with a 18.9% of the commercial radio breakfast market. The Breeze retains second place at breakfast with a 16.3% share. Newstalk ZB also retains third place this round with a 13.5% share of the breakfast market. More FM maintains fourth place at breakfast with a 8.6% share. Classic Hits 90FM takes up fifth position with a 7.4% share of the commercial radio breakfast market.
The margin of error on these results is +/- 2.2%
