Incident Site Cleared at Ponsonby
The incident site involving a trailer unit of a BP contracted semi trailer that became detached in College Hill, (Ponsonby Auckland) has now been cleared.
BP Media Manager, Diana Stretch, confirmed that all fuel from the disabled tanker had been pumped to another tanker and taken from the site.
“The emergency services have done a great job responding to the incident, putting out the small fire and containing the small spill that occurred. A small quantity of fuel did leak, but none went into the drainage system. All was contained by emergency services with BP’s emergency pollution control team standing by.
I am very happy to say that no other vehicles were involved and no one was injured. The tanker remained upright at all times and it’s fail safe brake system engaged in the correct manner.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused to motorists and the local residents and businesses.”
The cause of the incident is unknown. A full investigation has commenced and all relevant authorities will be involved.
