Fiat And Suzuki To Develop New 4wd
Giancarlo Boschetti, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fiat Auto S.p.A., and Osamu Suzuki, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Suzuki Motor Corporation, signed a memorandum of understanding today (10 April 2003) for the joint development of a new 4WD car.
At a press conference held in Budapest, Messrs. Boschetti and Suzuki stressed that the new vehicles will share a platform but not interior and exterior styling, with the Fiat and Suzuki models being clearly differentiated from each other.
The production of the new 4WD vehicles, which will be based upon the new Suzuki A-Segment Platform, will begin in the second half of 2005 at the Magyar Suzuki Corporation facility in Estergom, near Budapest in Hungary.
The new Fiat and Suzuki 4WD will be produced initially as a five-door vehicle and will be powered by a range of diesel and petrol engines.
Fiat Auto and Suzuki will distribute the new 4WD independently through their own importer and dealership networks worldwide.
