End Of First Quarter Sees Ford In Sales Race Lead
A strong March result catapulted Ford New Zealand to the front of the sales race for the month, and also handed the
Motor Company overall leadership for the first quarter.
The increasingly popular BA Falcon range enjoyed particular success, with more than 700 new Falcon passenger vehicles
registered for the month. The BA Falcon Ute also claimed segment leadership, and combined Falcon passenger and light
commercial sales helped propel Ford to number one year to date.
"Achieving market leadership for the quarter, and also our strong Falcon performance, is a result that we are
understandably proud of," said Marketing Manager, Graeme Whickman.
"The previous best result for a single month was 579 Falcons back in October 1995, so this result is a great
achievement."
Two wheel and four wheel drive Ford Courier derivatives also continued to perform well in a competitive segment.
"Ford's top three nameplates – specifically Falcon, Mondeo and Courier – accounted for approximately 80% of our total
March result," said Mr. Whickman.
"With respect to this figure, I am looking forward to tracking the performance of the Ford Focus when it goes on sale in
New Zealand later this month."
"I know the industry is not going to take our first quarter success lying down, but I'm confident that we have a great
product lineup available, which has been matched with high levels of specification, performance and price
competitiveness, that will ensure Ford vehicles remain at the top of people's shopping lists."
