Sample New Zealand’s favourite cheese
Aucklanders will be able to sample New Zealand’s favourite cheese the day after it receives its coveted accolade at the
national cheese awards.
As sponsors of the award for the country’s favourite cheese, Foodtown and Woolworths are holding a ‘Celebration of Fine
Cheese’ at Soljans Estate, just 25 minute’s drive north-west of Auckland on April 5 and 6.
For $10, cheese lovers can enjoy a glass of Soljan’s wine and all the cheese they can sample between 10am and 5pm.
Other attractions include music by, appropriately, The Fondue Set and a big marquee for shelter if it rains or shines.
On Sunday afternoon from 1pm, Foodtown and Woolworths official ambassador and celebrated master of wine Bob Campbell
will be on hand to offer advice on matching wine with cheese varieties.
Well-known food writer, winner of numerous wine and food awards and on the judging panel for this year’s New Zealand
Cheese Awards, Julie Biuso will partner with Bob to demonstrate the synergies between wine and cheese. She will be using
her own recipes.
Bob Campbell says the event brings New Zealand’s premier cheese makers together.
“This is an opportunity to enjoy the art of fine cheese in the heart of West Auckland’s wine country. Cheese lovers will
be able to sample the country’s favourite cheese as well as products from nine other cheese makers involved in the New
Zealand Cheese Awards.*”
New Zealand’s favourite cheese will be announced at the 10th anniversary Cheese Awards dinner in Auckland on Friday
April 4.
The two companies have been involved in the New Zealand Cheese Awards since it began 10 years ago.
Foodtown and Woolworths are also running cheese demonstrations in many of its Auckland supermarkets at the same time.
Last year, New Zealand’s favourite cheese was was Puhoi Camembert.
