Lpg Supply Stable
Rockgas General Manager, Owen Poole is confident LPG supply will remain stable and available for users for many years
to come.
“The supply of LPG is stable and likely to remain so for many years to come. While Maui is running down, the new gas
fields Pohokura will produce LPG from around 2005 – 2006 onwards. Other new fields, such as Rimu, will also supply LPG
and the production of home grown LPG from these fields is expected to increase. In the short term, Rockgas is working
with suppliers to maximise supply from Maui and any shortfall will be met by importing product, just as we have done in
the past,” Mr Poole said.
“Whether or not we will need to import LPG and what price it will be will not be known until negotiations between the
Crown and Maui partners (Shell, Todd, OMV) have concluded. In the meantime, we are advising all our customers that price
movements are likely and increases should be expected. At this stage however, we simply do not know how much the price
of LPG will increase,” said Mr Poole.
Mr Poole said Rockgas was committed to keeping its customers informed on specific price details, which he was expecting
to receive within two months.
Rockgas believes the choice of LPG as an energy source is soundly backed by stability of supply and its benefits as a
clean, healthy and efficient fuel for our times.
“There are compelling health, environmental and economic reasons for using LPG as a clean and efficient energy source,
the latest being the revelation that New Zealand sits at the bottom of the OECD table in vehicle pollution statistics, ”
Mr Poole concluded.
