Sq 286 / 12 March Auckland – Singapore Update 5
Customers on Singapore Airlines flight SQ286 from Auckland to Singapore, which yesterday returned to Auckland after a tail strike, have resumed their journey to Singapore and onward points.
Customers this morning boarded a new aircraft, which was flown in from Sydney overnight. This flight departed Auckland this morning at 10.40am, and is expected to arrive in Singapore shortly after 3.00pm Singapore time.
Two investigations are underway into the cause of yesterday’s tail strike incident, and the associated fire warning, which led to yesterday’s emergency landing. The first is being conducted by New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission, and SIA is co-operating fully with that inquiry. The second is an internal SIA inquiry.
It would be premature to canvass possible causes of this incident, but the inquiries will examine all the issues. The inquiries will be thorough and are expected to last for some time.
Singapore Airlines deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers as a result of this incident. We understand the anxiety an incident like this would have caused and we are endeavouring to assist our customers to reach their final destinations with the minimum of further inconvenience.
Despite the lengthy delay, customer feedback this morning was positive, and our cabin crew was touched by the warmth and understanding shown by passengers.
