Swiss Company Movenpick Chooses NZ to Launch Caffe Concept
What's hot? And cold? And totally cool in New Zealand?
According to patrons of the world's first Mövenpick total concept caffé, it's the newly opened Mövenpick Caffé Glacier in Mission Bay, Auckland. People around the country are visiting the caffé, which is becoming the hottest place in Auckland to drink and enjoy desserts.
Switzerland may be the home of the gourmet ice cream, but Mövenpick decided New Zealand was the ideal location to trial this new caffé concept where the natural flavours and textures of the exotic ice cream range are reflected perfectly in the caffé's mood and interior. The unique European café décor has been stylised by award winning design company 2MD.
The caffé is also the international testing ground for Mövenpick coffee, made to a Swiss recipe to the same exacting gourmet standards as the world-famous ice cream.
Caffé Glacier manager Sara Knight says Auckland is well known for its café society, but the company felt the world was ready for something different.
"At Mövenpick we say, the more things become the same, the more important is the difference. The Mövenpick Caffé Glacier is the difference," Miss Knight says.
"It's sheer indulgence to enjoy a rich cup of Mövenpick coffee at the same time as a serving of our Espresso Croquant in a handmade waffle cone. Or perhaps a cappuccino with some Caffé Mocha ice cream," says Miss Knight.
The caffé also encourages dining decadence with such temptations as homemade cookies and cake slices to accompany your coffee, and fabulous dessert platters including the classic affagato.
"And to complete the experience, add a glass of wine - we are fully licensed," says Miss Knight who emphasises Caffé Glacier is NOT your traditional ice cream parlour.
Caffé staff have undergone training by international award-winning barista Benjamin Simcox and food stylist Annabelle White has acted as food advisor.
Mövenpick believes this international first will prove a real winner with people who love to indulge their senses. It predicts there is huge potential for more CafféGlacier outlets as more and more people appreciate the wonderful combination of coffee and ice cream.
