Comprehensive Research Survey Into New Zealand’s Events Industry
In one of the largest research undertakings of its kind, Industry New Zealand is commissioning a comprehensive, online survey of event venues around the country.
“This year alone, the events industry has brought in $300 million to New Zealand’s economy – not to mention the invaluable positive publicity and international exposure to audiences around the world,” said Vito Lo Iacono, Industry New Zealand’s Major Events Manager.
Mr Lo Iacono said sporting events, conferences, concerts and tradeshows all had positive economic impacts on regions and local communities around the country. Industry New Zealand will use the information gathered to assess the capability of the industry.
“The survey results will allow Industry New Zealand to understand the current infrastructure of the industry and use that information to develop long-term economic development strategies.”
The survey, which can be found at www.eventvenues.org.nz, will also enable Industry New Zealand to compile a comprehensive online database of New Zealand events’ venues.
“It means that for the first time, nation-wide event venue information will be publicly available on the internet and accessible for event organisers around the country and internationally,” said Mr Lo Iacono.
Industry New Zealand has contracted Dow Communications to undertake the survey. Events venue administrators around the country have been emailed and encouraged to complete the online survey.
“It takes less than ten minutes to fill out and there are no costs involved,” said Mr Lo Iacono.
“All respondents will be included on the online database and will receive an executive summary of our findings in early 2003.
“At the end of the survey in January 2003, we plan to collaborate with the private sector involved in event planning and venue promotion,” he said.
Mr Lo Iacono said he wanted all events venue administrators input into the survey, including those managing smaller venues that may not necessarily see themselves as part of the events industry.
“Everyone has a chance to contribute – this is a fantastic opportunity to ensure the long-term growth of this significant industry,” said Mr Lo Iacono.
