Singapore Airlines Receives Top Honours For Investor Relations
Singapore Airlines has won five top awards at the Investor Relations Magazine Asia Awards 2002 ceremony held in Hong Kong this week.
The awards ceremony, held on 19 November 2002 in association with The Asian Wall Street Journal, saw SIA receive top honours in five categories, including ‘Grand Prix for Best Overall Investor Relations’, ‘Best Crisis Management’, ‘Best Annual Report’, ‘Best Investor Relations by a Singapore Company’, and ‘Best Communication of Shareholder Value’ (tied for first place).
Singapore Airlines was also nominated for ‘Best Use of the Internet for Investor Relations’ and ‘Best Financial Advertising’, and received a “highly commended” placing in these two categories.
According to Investor Relations Magazine, the results were based on interviews with fund managers and securities analysts by independent research companies with expertise in surveying the financial community. The purpose of these interviews was to:-
assess the overall quality of investor relations and recommend specific improvements; present their views on communications channels, disclosure, corporate governance and other key investor relations issues; and identify the companies that have achieved the year’s most impressive investor relations performances in various awards categories and market cap ranges, and to present their reasons in detail.
Many positive comments emerged from the interviews including that Singapore Airlines “provides timely information and is open to investors; and holds meetings with investors to explain any new direction the company is taking”.
Singapore Airlines’ Annual Report was also reported to “contain information that is easily readable and provides the reader with enough knowledge with regard to the operations of the company, its financial position and its future plans”.
Investor Relations Magazine examines all areas of investor relations from a global perspective and the London-based magazine is widely-read by fund managers and securities analysts.
Earlier this month, Singapore Airlines also won ‘Best International Airline’ in the inaugural TravelWeekly China Awards, which recognize those who have made a difference to mainland China’s tourism industry.
Readers throughout mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau were asked to vote for organizations based on innovation in marketing or services, professionalism, and trade-friendliness.
Other recent awards won by Singapore Airlines were ‘Best International Airline’ in the Conde Nast Traveler (US) 2002 Readers’ Choice Awards, ‘Best Worldwide Airline’ in the recent Scottish Passenger Agents Association (UK) 2002 Awards, and ‘Best Long Haul Airline’ from Travel Magazine (Belgium).
