Telecom Sets New Connection Prices
Telecom has adopted a new pricing structure for new connections.
The top standard fee for a new connection will be $500. It replaces the price on application category announced earlier which would have seen customers paying $1500 or more.
“We’ve been talking to a lot of people over the past few days. As a result of all the feedback, we’ve had a rethink about the 1000 to 2000 customers who were most affected by the changes,” Telecom Chief Executive Officer Theresa Gattung said today.
“We’re also adopting a programme that will enable customers facing the standard new connection fee to pay just $95 if they genuinely can’t afford more. That assessment will be made by a respected independent organisation,” Ms Gattung said.
“These new prices address the concerns that have been put to us.
“We’ve recognised concerns about access, especially for rural people.
“We’ve been prepared to be flexible and find a way to address these concerns. At the same time people have recognised that it’s legitimate for us to be able to recover some of our costs,” Ms Gattung said.
Connection Price Structure
High Density: $95 Medium Density: $250 Low Density: $500 High cost connections: one-third actual cost Low income customers who meet concession criteria: $95 (applies to customers in both Medium and Low Density categories) Reconnection charge: $45
