Human Rights Commissioner to launch union's work/life balance campaign
"We agree with Anne Knowles about the importance of education and communication in preventing workplace accidents and
stress," said Andrew Casidy, Acting General Secretary of the finance workers' union, Finsec.
"We're glad that employers are showing that they too are concerned about health and safety in the workplace.
"We believe that this is largely because of the Labour Government's focus on balancing workers' rights with the rights
of business.
"This new focus is given shape in legislation which provides a framework of joint responsibility and places a high value
on human lives by backing its requirements up with hefty fines.
"We invite the employers in our industry to participate in our Work/Life Balance campaign.
"This campaign will be launched by Chief Human Rights Commissioner, Rosslyn Noonan, NZCTU President Ross Wilson and
Finsec President, Robyn Woller on 4 December at 12.30 at the Michael Fowler Centre.
"We believe that if workers and employers work together to bring decent management practices, decent hours, decent pay
and decent skills training to the workplace, employers will have nothing to fear from the Health and Safety in
Employment Act," Andrew Casidy concluded.
