2002 Nuffield Farming Scholarship Winners
The 2002 Nuffield Farming Scholarship winners are Andrew Fox of Amberley, and Murray King of Richmond.
Andrew Fox is a pastoral farmer, North Canterbury Chairman of New Zealand Meat and Fibre Producers and a director of PPCS. Mr Fox's study will cover the reduction of compliance costs, opportunities for chilled lamb marketing in North America and the use of antibiotics in animal feeds.
Mr Fox believes that the increasing legislative burden on business stifles innovation and reduces profitability. Having worked on a US sheep ranch Mr Fox is also interested in the opportunities for a year round supply of fresh lamb into the US from both New Zealand and US producers.
Murray King, is a dairy farmer and Livestock Improvement Corporation Liaison farmer. Mr King will investigate Staffing Solution for New Zealand Primary Industries.
Mr King is interested in how agri-businesses identify and retain top people with particular reference to the social dimension of triple bottom line reporting. He plans to travel to Europe and North America.
Outstanding farmers are awarded scholarships to allow them to study agricultural subjects of their choice internationally, following an initial program in South East Asia, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
This year the scholarships are sponsored by: Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc), Meat New Zealand, Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd for New Zealand Dairy Board, Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, and New Zealand Nuffield Farming Past Scholars.
