New Internet Service Assists Creditors
Wellington, 15 August 2002 – Creditors affected when their clients file for personal bankruptcy can now turn to the
Internet for assistance. Yesterday evening the Insolvency Service launched their new internet product “Filing of Proofs
of Debt Online”.
The New Zealand Insolvency and Trustee Service acts to independently and equitably administer the estates of bankrupt
persons and certain insolvent companies. Making use of their Internet web site located at www.insolvency.govt.nz NZITS
have embarked on an ambitious project to initially enable creditors to file online, then subject to further development,
follow claims through to payout online. “The new online claims service is the first step in revolutionising the speed
and access of clients to information that we hold, which will ultimately result in more efficient and effective case
management” says Andrew Bridgman, National Manager of the NZ Insolvency and Trustee Service.
The first step toward providing an online service for creditors was the release of the Online Claims filing feature
today using the highly successful e-Government platform developed by the Ministry of Economic Development. Moving
forward, NZITS plan to offer online filing of statements of affairs, electronic reporting, enquiry and payment features
progressively over the next two years.
Developed with assistance and input from debt recovery experts in major NZ firms, feedback to date has been very
positive. Their contribution to the development was critical in making it the success that it is. This partnership with
private sector will be continued with future Insolvency Service IT Developments.
Creditors with an interest in this new service should visit the insolvency web site at www.insolvency.govt.nz or free
phone 0508 467 658 for more information. The insolvency web site was established in February of 1997 to offer a
searchable database of bankrupts and liquidations administered by NZITS.
