Information Technology Strategies In The Global Energy Business
– The Chevron Texaco Merger
Next Tuesday the Centre of Digital Enterprise at The University of Auckland will host a presentation by Dr Alan Nunns, General Manager, Technology & Strategy at Chevron Texaco Information Co in California USA.
The talk will focus on Information Technology related issues in the context of the recent Chevron Texaco merger.
Using a specific example of a global infrastructure project, IT strategies relating to globalisation, standardisation, consolidation, and integration will be discussed. Organisation design issues focusing on the management of the IT function and the ability to create value through IT will be explored. Finally, a look at what the next decade is likely to bring will conclude the formal presentation. The presentation will be followed by a brief discussion period.
Background information:
Dr. Alan Nunns is a New Zealand expatriate, and currently General Manager of Technology and Strategy in ChevronTexaco Information Technology Co. ChevronTexaco is a $100 billion global energy company (represented in NZ by Caltex). He reports to the CIO and is responsible for managing all the strategic and business aspects of a $500 million central IT budget.
A major merger of Chevron and Texaco has just been completed and put in action many best practices in the management of IT during mergers.
Dr Nunns graduated from The University of Auckland in 1976 with a BSc (Hons) in Geology. He was a Commonwealth Scholar to the University of Durham graduating with a PhD in Marine Geophysics.
