Two of the foremost commentators on Taiwanese business issues will be speaking in New Zealand next month.
The speakers, Diane Ying and John Pickles, will be speaking at series of business seminars on trading with Taiwan organised by Asia 2000.
Diane Ying is author, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Common Wealth magazine Group. She founded the Common Wealth Magazine, Taiwan's most influential political-economic magazine, in 1984.
Since then she has received many awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award for raising professional journalism standards in Taiwan. In 1995 the former Hong Kong-based magazine Asiaweek elected her one of Asia's most influential women. She is currently active in economic, cultural and educational affairs.
John Pickles is an independent, Taipei-based, British businessman with 20 years' experience in Asian business. His main interest is in Asian markets and, as president of Asian Pacific Research Ltd (APR), he has developed a regional market consultancy with offices in Taipei, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing and Tokyo. APR is focused primarily on industrial research to assist companies in their medium-term planning.
As a partner in the Taiwanese company, Savant Chen Public Relations, he also specialises in marketing events for international companies participating in trade exhibitions and conferences. He is also a founding partner of the Bectech Group, a Taiwanese engineering company that specialises in the design, installation and servicing of gas analysis systems in the Taiwanese semi-conductor industry. Bectech is now expanding into China.
Mr Pickles is also a director on the European Chamber of Commerce in Taipei and is the Taiwan national representative to the European Society for Opinion and Market Research.
The seminars will be held in Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland from 16 - 19 September.
