National Beekeepers Compulsory Levy Ballot Defeated.
The proposal to introduce a compulsory commodity levy on bee products has been defeated, Don Bell, National Beekeepers Association (NBA) President announced today.
"The bee industry will consider its options at the NBA annual general meeting in Auckland on 17/18 July," said Mr Bell.
Under a weighted vote the ballot was lost. A majority of voters (16%) voted in favour of the industry good proposal, however an industrial weighting of 39% of those who voted representing 33% of hive ownership voted against the proposal. Accordingly the referendum was lost.
