Green Acres Tops Lotto in Franchise Stakes
Group becomes # 1 Franchise business in New Zealand
AUCKLAND – Tuesday 04 June, 2002 – It’s official. Green Acres has now ousted Lotto as the nation’s largest franchise
business. As at 1 June 2002, Green Acres had 665 franchisees, while Lotto had 617*.
“Ever since we started in 1991 we’ve been able to steadily grow the number of Green Acres franchisees based on a simple,
proven three-part formula,” said Logan Sears, Executive Director of Green Acres Franchise Group. “Maintain a high
quality service throughout all operations, look to introduce new services and continuously find ways to add value to our
business.”
“Once we achieved a certain size, the rate of growth increased. That’s because we have a well-known and trusted brand,
and we’re able to offer a more comprehensive and better tested franchise system, one that’s developed specifically for
the New Zealand market. We’re also able to negotiate better purchasing agreements on behalf of franchisees and we have
greater advertising spend.
The last 12 months has seen the establishment of Green Acres Trade Services, which provides plumbing, electrical and
painting services. Last month Green Acres also launched, as part of the part of the Franchise Group (not Trade
Services), Green Acres Waste Removal Services.
Corporate restructuring throughout New Zealand has been a major factor in Green Acres growth, says Sears. “People who’ve
been made redundant generally recognise that job security is a myth and that they’d be better off rather working for
