Asb Bank Confirms Fatality In Armed Robbery
Statement made by Hugh Burrett, Managing Director ASB BANK
We regret to confirm that wounds suffered by John Vaughan, our staff member shot in the armed robbery at the Mangere Bridge branch, have proved fatal. John died in hospital just before 8 p.m. this evening.
We are deeply shocked and saddened by John’s death, and are enormously concerned for his friends and family at this terrible time. ASB BANK personnel have been comforting his family since the shooting. We are committed to ensuring his family and friends receive the best support and counselling possible.
John has been on our team for 18 months, and was a tremendously valued person. His family’s loss must be devastating, and our immediate priority is to stand by them, to help them with anything they need.
We are also very concerned about our branch staff who witnessed the shooting. They have been interviewed by Police. We are providing all staff with as much support as possible and will be providing them with counselling to help them through this tragedy.
This is a huge shock to everyone at ASB BANK. We are working closely with the Police to help bring the offender to justice.
The concern and sympathy shown by our friends and customers to our staff is greatly appreciated.
Ends.
