Award-Winning Radio Station Launches Budget 2002 Special
National Maori language radio service Ruia Mai will broadcast up-to-the- minute, comprehensive coverage of this year's
Budget and its impact on Maori.
The Auckland-based Ngati Whatua station won 'Best Maori Language Broadcast' for last year's Budget special at the recent
2002 New Zealand Radio Awards.
One of its most ambitious broadcasts to date, the show included a live in- studio discussion with at least two expert
commentators at a time with another two interviewees on the phone.
This year's Budget programming includes:
* A special one-and-a-half hour edition of the night time current affairs show, Te Kawe Purongo, between 6.30pm and 8pm
on the day of the Budget - Thursday, May 23;
* Extended coverage of the Budget on the morning current affairs show, Te Kowae Paneke, between 7am and 8.30am on
Friday, May 24;
* A special one-hour bilingual Budget special between 10am and 11am on Friday, May 24, in place of the weekly political
series, Nga Tino Poutama;
* And on-the-hour updates for the news bulletins, Nga Rangona Korero, provided by the team of reporters in Auckland and
Wellington.
Ruia Mai produces news and current affairs programmes as well as children, youth and sports shows. Seven days a week,
the station's presenters, reporters and producers generate some 40 hours of programming for the national network of iwi
radio stations as well as their own frequency in Auckland, 1179AM.
