More ANZ tragedies waiting to happen?
"Since the Coroner's finding that stress at work drove an ANZ banker into a suicidal depression two years ago, things
have got worse," said Finsec national organiser, Geraldine Molloy.
"ANZ continues to publish target achievements across all levels of the bank and is still not routinely adjusting targets
for time spent on approved leave."
Geraldine is working with the group of Financial Advisors who were Mike Smith's colleagues at the time of his death.
"It's two years on and their issue has not changed. They want a collective agreement that will lay down principles for
setting performance targets but the bank has consistently refused to conclude collective bargaining at this level,"
Geraldine said.
"Many of these Financial Advisors suffer from stress-related conditions. A number of the original group resigned before
the bank made them unemployable. Very few are able to meet the bank's constantly changing and unachievable targets.
"It's only a matter of time before we see another ANZ tragedy," Geraldine concluded.
