The New Zealand Herald Takes The Highest Honour In Newspaper Marketing
New Zealand Herald has today received the highest honour in newspaper marketing, the 2002 Best Of Show at the 67th Annual International Newspaper Marketing Awards (INMA).
164 marketing campaigns from newspapers in 25 countries were selected as finalists, with 67 first-place winners across 17 categories announced today at the INMA World Congress at The Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
Earl J. Wilkinson, Executive Director of INMA said: "Being selected a finalist in such elite company, among newspapers from around the world, is one of the biggest honours in the newspaper industry. The only greater honour is to be selected a first-place recipient. The winners announced today are the elite of the elite for 2002."
Ken Steinke, Managing Director of The New Zealand Herald, said: "Winning five categories and taking Best in Show is an outstanding success for The New Zealand Herald. The list of finalists reads like a newspaper who's who. Finalists included the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, the Sunday Telegraph, Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Age. To win five categories and then take Best of Show is just stunning and proves we are a company putting out a world beating product."
In an unprecedented success for a New Zealand newspaper, The New Zealand Herald has received the following awards: Overall Winner Best in Show for the Herald Brand Campaign Winner of: In Newspaper Promotion Readership for the Herald Brand Print Campaign Multi Media Promotion for the TV, radio and print Community Service for the Santa Parade Public Relations Programmes and Events for the Knowledge Wave Newspaper in Education for the Rewarding Learning Minds
The New Zealand Herald also received commendations in the following categories: Brand Radio, TV Promotion and Best Results - schools programme
Commenting on the awards Mr. Steinke said: "The range of award categories we've won is particularly pleasing and is proof of excellence right across The New Zealand Herald. With wins from editorial with the Knowledge Wave, to marketing through the Brand Best of Show, as well as taking out the Newspapers in Education category, this is a comprehensive awards success."
Accepting the awards in Toronto, for The New Zealand Herald, General Manager Sales and Marketing, Pip Elliott put it this way: "The important point here is that judging doesn't just recognise excellence in strategy and visual execution, this is an endorsement of tangible results delivered by an excellent newspaper team."
Judging for the competition was held in February in Dallas by 24 top executives with media companies, product marketers, and advertising agencies. More than 1,100 entries from 200 newspapers in 30 countries were judged in a day-long process.
